Butted up against steep cliffs and nestled in magical fjord-like bay, the walled town of Kotor is steeped in history and tradition. Its beautifully diverse architecture, typified by winding cobblestone streets, red-roofed houses, and romantic old squares, reflects the various empires that once ruled over the region, as well as the great wealth the mariners of Kotor amassed during their exciting seafaring adventures. Inhabited since antiquity, Kotor’s historical center is in fact one of the best preserved medieveal towns of Montenegro and was rightfully added to the UNESCO List of World Cultural Heritage in 1979.
